To provide an inexpensive energy-saving portable cutter, which suppresses the wasteful power consumption of a commercial power source or a battery pack by cutting off the power supply to a motor in the case where a user does not intend it.

The portable cutter includes: a body part 2, which has a cutting edge 3 for cutting a material to be processed, a housing 7 for storing the motor 4 for rotating the cutting edge 3, a saw cover 6 being fixed to the housing 7 to cover the cutting edge 3, and a handle 5 having a trigger 10 for controlling the rotation of the motor 4, and a base part 1, which is connected to the housing 7, slides on the material to be processed and has an opening to allow the cutting edge 3 to project. The cutter includes a move regulating member, which is provided in the body part 2 and moves between a position that enables the drive of the motor 4 and a position which disables the drive of the motor.
