To provide a portable cutting machine which has a battery, an electric motor 2, and a saw blade 1 in a highly concentrated arrangement, and which is compact, well-balanced in weight, and easy to handle.
The saw blade 1, a saw cover 14, and the electric motor 2 for driving the saw blade are provided, on a surface plate 6, in proximity in a row arrangement as a cutting machine body 3, above which an operating handle 4 is disposed parallel to the cutting direction of the saw blade 1, and a battery pack 5 for driving the electric motor is removably provided below the handle 4. The lower part of the cutting machine body 3 is provided with the surface plate 6 to be placed on a workpiece to be cut and with a depth-of-cut adjustment mechanism for adjusting the amount of projection of the saw blade 1 from the lower surface of the surface plate 6. The battery pack 5 is disposed in the vicinity of the electric motor 2 and at a position offset from the center of the handle 4 to the side of the electric motor 2, and the depth-of-cut adjustment mechanism is disposed on the side not of the battery pack 5 but of the saw blade 1.
