To provide a portable electronic device for receiving and displaying emergency information from another portable electronic device with which a user can notify another portable electronic device of his own state, location and the like.
When the user operates an operation part 15 and selects an emergency signal luminescence mode, a control part 17 outputs signals stored in an emergency signal storing memory 16 which represent situations and locations such as "SOS", "injured", "impossible to move" and "mountain peak" to an LCD 14. The user selects a signal that he intends to light from the signals output on the LCD 14. The control part 17 reads the signal corresponding to what the user selected from the emergency signal storing memory 16 and lights a spot light generation device 12 by using the read signal. In addition, the control part 17 receives light of an emergency light signal by using a light receiving device 13 and displays content of this light signal on the LCD 14 by referring to the emergency signal storing memory 16.
