To prevent a server from failing to record video data by a worker's forgetting to perform operation for videorecording, in a system which records the video data acquired by photographing with a portable imaging apparatus in a built-in storage temporarily, then transmits the data to a server provided on a wireless LAN and videorecords the data.
When the portable imaging apparatus 10 receives a periodic transmitted electric wave of the base station 31 of the wireless LAN 30 and measures its electric field strength, and on the basis of the result of its comparison with a threshold value, judges to be in a communication area, a transmission mode in which video data in an HDD 15 are transmitted to the server 40 via the wireless LAN 30, is set automatically. When the apparatus judges to be outside the communication area, a recording mode in which a video signal obtained from a miniature camera 2 is compressed and recorded in the HDD 15, is set automatically.
