PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable setting of data indicative of an arm on which a portable information terminal is worn without requiring a user to set up the data.SOLUTION: A smartwatch 1 is provided with an accelerometer and a gyro sensor, which are detection means for detecting frequencies corresponding to movement of an arm, and is configured to extract signal intensity of the detected frequencies in a predetermined frequency band, and to determine whether the smartwatch is being worn on a right arm or left arm on the basis of the extracted signal intensity in the frequency band.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
