To detect the speed of movement with accuracy and to enable the monitoring of running pace expressed practically by detecting the speed of movement of a carrier at predetermined intervals, converting detected speed data into a predetermined unit, and dispalying verified results and the converted unit.
When a user inputs the unit of running speed through an input circuit 101 that the user wants to be displayed, a CPU 103 stores the inputted unit in an RAM 104 and starts the receiving operation of a GPS receiving means 100. When a signal to start measurement is inputted from the input circuit 101 at the completion of measurement preparation, timing is first started and a reference signal for timing is received from a reference signal generating circuit 102. When the user inputs the setting of a unit through the input circuit 101, the CPU 103 stores the unit in the RAM 104 and converts speed data into the unit. Computed speed of movement, distance, and timing are displayed on a display panel 107 via a driving circuit 106.
