PURPOSE: To accurately record a position of an information inputting member by using a magnetoresistive detecting element, in which a material having a high magnetic resistance ratio and whose voltage drop against a change of resistance and impressed voltage does not depend on a changing speed of a magnetic field is assembled.
CONSTITUTION: A position detecting system 10 is constructed of a magnetic information inputting member 20 and a sensor 30. The member 20 is a hand-held pen and includes a magnet 22 generating a magnetic field. A permanent magnet is suitable for the magnet 22 for freeing the member 20 from a wire supplying electric current, and a permanent magnet made of hexaferrite and the like provided with high energy facilitates position detection by means of a detection element. The sensor 30 includes a thin film type magnetoresistive member 32, and a resistance R of the member 32 is changed according to the magnetic field intensity when a magnetic field of the magnet 22 works on the sensor 30. A change of the resistance causes nitriding complying with a voltage according to the relationship ΔV=IΔR. As the magnetic field intensity is proportional to a distance from the sensor 30, a ΔV signal from each sensor is used for deciding the position of the inputting member 20.
