To provide a position detection system for accurately detecting the position of a mobile object moving for a long distance.
A plurality of reflecting plates 6 each of which has reflecting surfaces on its both surfaces are arranged along the moving route of a crane body 2 so that all intervals are different from each other. An attitude state detector built in a reflecting plate support frame 5 detects the attitude state of each reflecting plate 6. A ranging device 3 moves with the crane body 2, emits measurement wave in the longitudinal direction of the moving route, and detects the reflected wave of the measurement wave reflected by the reflecting plate 6 in each direction, thereby measuring the distance to the reflecting plate 6. A controller 7 determines the current position of the crane body 2 based on the measurement result of the ranging device 3 and a detection result of the attitude state detector. When the crane body 2 approaches the reflecting plate 6, the reflecting plate 6 switches from an attitude capable of reflecting the measurement wave to an attitude that does not disturb the passage of the crane body 2.
