To provide a position detection system detecting accurately and surely the position of a transmitter even in the ocean.
This system is equipped with ocean radars 2A, 2B installed on mutually different positions, for measuring the state of a surface layer current in the ocean, based on a radar signal S2 outputted toward the ocean and a received reflected signal S3; and a base station 3 connected to the ocean radars 2A, 2B through a communication network, for executing a prescribed processing including a processing based on the state of the surface layer current measured by the ocean radars 2A, 2B. The ocean radars 2A, 2B are constituted so that a rescue signal S1 transmitted from the transmitter 1 in the ocean is received, and constituted so that azimuth data D1 showing a transmission azimuth can be outputted by specifying the transmission azimuth of the received rescue signal S1. The base station 3 executes position detection processing for detecting a transmission position of the rescue signal S1, based on the azimuth data D1 outputted from the ocean radars 2A, 2B.
