PURPOSE: To detect the position of a measuring carriage with high precision to long length by engaging a bracket provided to the positioning frame of the measuring carriage with brackets studded on a rail rack at constant intervals.
CONSTITUTION: While an object to be detected is shot by a TV camera 34 mounted on an auxiliary carriage 28, the measuring carriage 5 is run and stopped near a detection position. When the positioning frame is at the rotatable measuring carriage 5, it is rotated to release the incorporated brake of an electric motor 7. A stopper is pressed against the reverse surface of the bracket and the measuring carriage 5 is further moved to press a lock against the bracket. The TV camera 34 is moved to a position to be detected, which is displayed. The positioning is reset and the positioning frame is rotated.
