Abstract:
PURPOSE:To move assuredly a mobile robot to a desired position with no use of a gyrocompass by correcting the position and direction of the robot every time it passes marks on its path. CONSTITUTION:When a shift is designated to a mobile robot from a position S10 to a position S19, the robot calculates plural courses between the points S10 and S19 from its present position, the position of a caller, map data, etc. Then the shortest course is decided and stored in an RAM17. The stage of the robot is rotated at the position S10 and it is decided whether the robot is set in the direction S10-S11. If the robot is not turned in the designated direction, a belt-shaped mark is detected at the present position of the robot by direction sensors 13a, 13b, 14a and 14b respectively. Then the stage of the robot is rotated more so that the robot is set in the direction Y. When the robot is set in the designated direction, the robot is moved forward until the mark position of the S11. These procedures are carried out successively to move the robot to the target position S19.
