To provide a position indicating device for an elevator car enabling the visual handicapped person to easily know the current position of the car.

This position indicating device is provided with a guide cylinder 7 embedded in an opening 1A of a console panel 1, a lamp 9 positioned in the guide cylinder 7 and fixed and supported on a board 8, a transparent cylindrical cover 10 provided for covering the lamp 9 and movably in the guide cylinder 7, a coil spring member 11 provided between the rear end of the guide cylinder 7 and the rear end of the cylindrical cover 10, and a shape memory alloy-made spring member 12 provided between the inner wall of the cylindrical cover 10 and the lamp 9 for projecting the tip of the cylindrical cover 10 from the opening 1A against the spring force of the coil spring member 11 when the lamp 9 is lighted, and burying the tip of the cylindrical cover 10 into the opening 1A by the spring force of the coil spring member 11 when the lamp 9 is extinguished.
