PURPOSE: To accurately position an elongated workpiece between two workpieces of different one-process quantities regardless of a difference in length by forming a positioning tool, which moves the workpiece a predetermined distance longitudinally, from a rigid body which is movable parallel to the longitudinal direction of the workpiece.

CONSTITUTION: A positioning tool 132 with four operating surfaces 134 or 140 is placed on a tool holder 114, and a positioning tool 146 with two operating surfaces 148 and 150 is tightened to a reciprocating table 12 in such a way as to be longitudinally adjustable within a slit. Positioning of a pin material 86 is effected by the positioning tools 132 and 146 of a positioning device 116, and during the forward movement of the reciprocating table 12 the positioning tool 132 is moved to a transport device via a coupling bar 110 and a swing lever 106, so that the pin material 86 located ahead of the operating surface 134 is fed a predetermined distance. While the reciprocating table is returning, the pin material 86 put into a forward movement from the operating surface 134 is located ahead of the operating surface 136 and fed by the same dimension during a new installation process.
