PURPOSE: To attain character positioning by reading out two addresses at a time to recognize the character positions and therefore reading the picture data out of a picture memory quickly and in simple constitution.

CONSTITUTION: An address AN is supplied to an input terminal 41 of an address control part 4 and an adder circuit 44 gives +1 to the address AN to obtain an address (AN + 1). A multiplexer 45 delivers the address (AN + 1) when a positioning mode signal is supplied to the part 4 and then selects the address AN in a normal mode. Therefore, the addresses AN and (AN + 1) are delivered to the output terminals 42 and 43 of the part 4 respectively in a positioning mode. The terminal 42 indicates the addresses AN of the even-bit RAMs 10, 12, 14 and 16 of a picture memory 1 and delivers their data DO, D2, D4 and D6 respectively. While the terminal 43 indicates the addresses (AN + 1) of the odd-bit RAMs 11, 13, 15 and 17 and delivers their data D1, D3, D5 and D7 respectively.
