To provide positive charge type encapsulated silica excellent in environmental stability and in function as a microcarrier, to provide a manufacturing method by which such positive charge type encapsulated silica can be efficiently manufactured, and to provide toner excellent in charging characteristics.
The encapsulated silica is positive charge type encapsulated silica as an external additive added to toner, and the encapsulated silica is obtained by coating silica particles having an anionic group on the surface with a film comprising a first cation layer derived from a cationic polymerizable surfactant having a cationic group, a hydrophobic group and a polymerizable group, wherein the film has the cationic group originating in the cationic polymerizable surfactant on the side opposite to the silica particle.
