Abstract:

To provide positive electrode active material for alkaline secondary batteries with a high utilization factor.

The positive electrode active material for alkaline secondary batteries has powder with water oxidation nickel as a principal component of which high order oxide of cobalt exists on the surface at least, wherein, when an infrared-absorption spectrum is measured by the KBr method, following spectrum characteristics are shown: A. (T1000-T700)/300≤0.05 (wherein, T1000 expresses permeability (% indication) in a wavelength of 1000 cm-1, T700 expresses permeability (% indication) in a wavelength of 700 cm-1); B. The maximum of the permeability in the wave number area of T700 to T1000 is 40% or less.
