Abstract:

To provide a positive active material for a nickel-lithium secondary battery with high capacity and excellent cycle life characteristics by imparting thereto structural stability.

A positive active material for a lithium secondary battery is represented by LiaNi1-(x+y+z)CoxMyNzOb(formula 1) where a, b, x, y and z are defined as 0.95≤a≤1.05, 0.01≤x+y≤0.5, 0<y≤0.1, 0≤z≤0.05, 1.7≤b≤2.3, where M is at least one of La and Ce, and N is Mg and Sr.
