Abstract:
Provided is a positive electrode active material for a lithium ion battery, which has good battery characteristics. The positive electrode active material comprises: positive electrode active material particles each having a composition represented by the following formula: LiNiCOMnOin which 1.00 ≤ a ≤ 1.02; 0.8 ≤ b ≤ 0.9; and b + c + d = 1; anda coating layer containing lithium niobate, which partially covers surfaces of the positive electrode active material particles, wherein the positive electrode active material has a ratio of Nb to the total amount of Ni, Co and Mn of from 0.4 to 1.2 mol%.
