Abstract:

To provide a lithium secondary battery realizing high output, high output especially in a low temperature environment and at the same time, improving life performance.

A positive electrode material comprising secondary particles formed by aggregation of primary particles of a lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt composite oxide having layered structure is prepared by mixing and baking a raw material containing lithium, nickel, manganese, and cobalt. The average particle size of the secondary particles is made 5-20 μm and a volume ratio of pores of the secondary particles is made 10-40%. A nonaqueous electrolyte is infiltrated into a positive electrode using the positive electrode material and a negative electrode using amorphous carbon powder having an average particle size of 5-20 μm as a negative electrode material, and the lithium ion secondary battery is manufactured. The amount of the nonaqueous electrolyte penetrating into the secondary particles of the positive electrode material is made appropriate and the distribution of the nonaqueous electrolyte is made almost uniform.
