To provide a post for a guardrail capable of positively suppressing breakage of a joint part between a post body and a base plate by sufficiently absorbing impact force caused by the collision of a vehicle with simple structure.
The post 1 for the guardrail comprises the base plate 11 fixed to a sill 100, and the cylindrical post body 13 erected on the sill 100 by welding the lower end to the base plate 11, and supporting a plurality of cross beams 2 receiving the collision of the vehicle. A circular through-hole 13a radially penetrating the post body 13 is formed in a region on the opposite side to the vehicle passing side near the lower end of the post body 13. The through-hole 13a has a diameter sized to be 17.5-25.0% of the diameter of the post body 13.
