PURPOSE: To dispense with the section insulated from ground by getting voltage information from the shield cover of the device suspended from a power cable and a dielectric.
CONSTITUTION: In a power cable accident point direction detector 11 and the orientation method using it: a storage 13 is fixed to a power cable 1; a detection unit 18, a current transformer 17 and a shield cover 14 are attached to the storage 13 through a dielectric 15; and the detection unit 18 is provided to integration-process the voltage/current vector values for judging the accident by product of voltage and current, and detecting the accident current direction from the phase difference between the voltage and the current. Moreover, the driving power source for an arithmetic circuit can be obtained from a solar battery cell 20, a current transformer 17, a charge circuit from a dielectric 15, an Ni-Cd battery, and a constant voltage circuit.
