A chopper-bridge-unit converter 2 formed by connecting a leg 1 with two of a switching element Q1 having self-arc-extinguishing capacity being connected in series and a capacitor C1 in parallel is used as a converter unit, and two of this converter unit are connected in series to configure a phase arm 3. A positive-side phase arm 3 is connected at one end to positive-side terminals of DC power supplies C2, C3 and connected at other end to the secondary winding positive side of a single-phase 4-winding transformer TR. A negative-side phase arm 3 is connected at one end to negative-side terminals of the DC power supplies and connected at other end to the tertiary winding positive side of the transformer TR. The secondary winding negative side and the tertiary winding negative side of the transformer TR are connected to each other, and between U phase, V phase, and W phase also, are connected to each other as an AC middle point Nac. The quaternary windings of the transformer TR are mutually connected in series in U phase, V phase, and W phase, configuring a delta connection.
