Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an improved MHD generator used in both MHD generation and mechanical generation without using a heat exchanger, in which an ionized gas is fed stably and an collector electrode is prevented from melting.
CONSTITUTION: A generator 1 includes an MHD generator unit 3 and a mechanical generator unit 6 in succession in a fluid path 2. The two pairs of generator units 3 and 6 are connected to each other in an annular shape. Water is used in the fluid path 2. The MHD generator unit 3 is made up of six arc generating electrodes 8, and a fuel gas feeding pipe 9. Each set of three arc electrodes 8 is electrically connected to phases of a three-phase power supply formed in star connection. A phase voltage is applied to each arc generating electrode 8 so that arcs are discharged from the top thereof.
