Abstract:

PURPOSE: To effectively lessen the copper corrosiveness of sulfur-contg. substances, such as dialkyl polysulfides.
CONSTITUTION: This method of lowering the copper corrosiveness of the org. sulfur-contg. substances corrosive to copper consists of treating the sulfur-contg. substances with an alkaline metal-contg. or alkaline earth metal-contg. substance capable of dissolving the sulfur-contg. substances to elementary sulfur. The treatment is executed in a liquid reaction medium comprising water and about ≥1 wt.%. at least one kind of ketones having solubility in water. The org. sulfur-contg. substances treated by the method have the lower corrosiveness to the copper.
