PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control an internal combustion engine, power input/output device, and a motor in response to an output limit or an input limit in an energy storage device, such as a secondary battery, etc., and to suppress charging and discharging of the energy storage device by an excess power of the energy storage device in a power output device having the power input/output device for controlling the operation of the internal combustion engine in association with input/output of a power and the motor which can output the power to a drive shaft.
SOLUTION: A method for controlling the power output device includes a step of setting of upper and lower torque limit values Tm1min, Tm1max which can be outputted from a dynamotor based on input/output limits Win, Wout of a battery, motor required power Pm2 and auxiliaries required power Pcsm and a loss Ploss (S150), and limiting of a target rotational speed Ne* of the engine so that the dynamotor torque falls within a range of upper and lower torque limit values Tm1min, Tm1max (S180-S200). Thus, the charging/discharging of the battery due to excess power can be suppressed, and a torque in response to the torque required by a driver can be outputted.
