To provide a power output device which is small as well as improved in energy efficiency.
A power output device 10 comprises an engine 50, a planetary gear 20 fitted on a crankshaft 56 of the engine 50, a clutch motor 30 including an inner rotor 32 coupled on a sun-gear shaft 25 of the planetary gear 20 and an outer rotor 33 coupled on a drive shaft 12, an assist motor 40 fitted to a ring-gear shaft 26 coupled to the drive shaft 12, and a controller 80 for driving both motors 30 and 40. Part of power outputted from the engine 50 is mechanically converted in torque by the planetary gear 20 through the control of both motors 30 and 40 by the controller 80 and is then outputted to the drive shaft 12. The remaining power is outputted to the drive shaft 12 in an electromagnetic form of energy through both motors 30 and 40.
