To provide a power storage device which simply and uninterruptively increases and decreases a plurality of secondary battery groups according to power consumption, remaining capacity of batteries, and other situation.
The power storage device is configured so that: there are provided a plurality of secondary battery groups 51, 52; a bidirectional power converter is connected between the plurality of secondary battery groups and a commercial system; a switching means 6 is arranged between the bidirectional power converter and the secondary battery groups; the switching means connects rectifying elements 612, 622 and semiconductor switches 613a, 623a in series with respect to the first secondary battery groups 51, 52; a plurality of circuits in which the semiconductor switches 613b, 623b and current limiting elements 614b, 624b are connected in parallel with each other are arranged, and these circuits are connected in series; the serial circuits are connected to serial circuits each composed of the rectifying elements and the semiconductor switches; mechanical switches 611, 621 are connected to the serial circuits in parallel therewith; and the opening/closing timing of the mechanical switch and the opening/closing timing of the semiconductor switch are controlled by a signal of a switch control means.
