To provide a power supply apparatus which obtains stable dimming control and reduces power loss and to provide a luminaire.
The power supply apparatus includes a high-current detecting portion 20 which has low impedance to detect current running to a light-emitting diode 19 in a shallow dimming depth area and a low-current detecting portion 21 which has high impedance to detect current running to the light-emitting diode 19 in a deep dimming depth area, wherein the high-current detecting portion 20 and the low-current detecting portion 21 are selected according to a dimming depth of a dimming signal, and the current running to the light-emitting diode 19 is controlled to be constant by detection signals of the high-current detecting portion 20 and the low-current detecting portion 21.
