Abstract:

To provide a configuration of a power supply control apparatus capable of quickly detecting abnormalities and of effectively reducing power loss, in a power MOSFET.

A semiconductor switching element 11 of the power supply control apparatus 10 is configured as a single chip with the power MOSFET 15, a sense MOSFET 16, and an abnormality detection circuit 13. An externally mounted resistor 12 is provided to the outside of the semiconductor switch element 11, one terminal of the externally mounted resistor 12 is connected to the source terminal of the power MOSFET 15, the other terminal of the externally mounted resistor 12 is connected to an external terminal P4 of the semiconductor switch element 11, and a current, according to a voltage level Vs of the source terminal flows through the externally mounted resistor 12 via the external terminal P4. The abnormality detection circuit 13 is connected to the external terminal P4, and provides abnormality signals SC, OC on the basis of the comparison between threshold currents Ia, Ib in response to a current through the external terminal P4 with the sense current. Since the sense current will immediately reach the threshold currents Ia, Ib on the occurrence of a short-circuit, short-circuit can quickly be detected and the power loss in the power MOSFET can be reduced.
