To provide a power supply system which responds to an instantaneous high energy requirement, and suppresses early deterioration of a lithium ion capacitor while achieving maximum use of power capacity.
The power supply system 10 includes a lithium ion secondary battery 3, a monitoring circuit 6 which monitors terminal voltage of the battery 3, a lithium ion capacitor 4 connected in parallel to the battery 3, an FET 9 which opens and closes to connect and disconnect the capacitor 4, and a protective circuit 5 which monitors the terminal voltage of the capacitor 4. The protective circuit 5 opens and closes the FET 9 to control the full charge voltage of the capacitor 4 to be equal to or lower than an upper-limit voltage determined to be lower than the maximum operating voltage of the lithium ion secondary battery 3.
