Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-safety power supply unit and an illumination device.SOLUTION: There is provided a power supply unit having a DC-DC converter and a protection circuit. The DC-DC converter includes: a normally-on type switching element; a normally-on type current control element connected in series to the switching element to control a current flowing on the switching element; and a rectifier element connected in series to the current control element. The switching element turns ON/OFF to convert an input first DC voltage into a second DC voltage having a different absolute value to supply the second DC voltage to a load. When a current of a predetermined value or more flows on the switching element and the current control element, the protection circuit shuts off the current flowing on the switching element and the current control element.
