To provide a power tool capable of promptly terminating interruption of sliding associated with a hard-to-engage state in speed reduction ratio change.
In this power tool, a speed reduction mechanism part 2 is formed by using a switching member 7 slidable in the axial direction, and a gear member 5 engageable with the switching member 7. A reduction-ratio-switching means includes a shifting actuator 6 for causing the switching member 7 to slide, a drive state detection part for detecting the drive state of a motor 1, a sliding position detection part for detecting the sliding position of the switching member 7, and a control part for starting the shifting actuator 6 and temporarily changing the rotation power of the motor 1. The control part changes the relative rotation speed of the switching member 7 and the gear member 5 at incomplete shifting, that is, when the switching member 7 has not yet moved to a target position by sliding.
