To provide a power transmission device capable of easily starting an automobile on a grade.
A control-type sliding clutch 20 and a mechanical control-type bidirectional clutch 30 are assembled between an input shaft 1 to which the rotation of an engine is transmitted and an output shaft 2 fitted to an outer side of the input shaft 1, the input shaft 1 and the output shaft 2 are engaged by the sliding clutch 20 while sliding them, and the bi-directional clutch 30 is engaged after the engagement of the sliding clutch 20 to improve transmission efficiency. A one-way clutch 61 is mounted between the output shaft 2 and a fixed housing 60 mounted outside of the output shaft, so that the output shaft 2 is locked by the operation of the one-way clutch 61 to prevent the movement of the automobile in the direction opposite to the advancing direction, when a brake pedal is released, and the rotation in the direction opposite to the rotating direction of the engine is transmitted to the output shaft 2 from a wheel side when the automobile is stopped on an upgrade, whereby the automobile can be easily started on the grade.
