Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To start the selection of a body as a precedent vehicle and reset the selection in early stages by enabling a body recognizing means to calculate even a lateral moving speed, allowing a selecting means to calculate a predicted lateral position as the lateral position of the body which is a specific time later by using the lateral moving speed, and performing a precedent vehicle selecting process according to the current lateral position and predicted lateral position.
SOLUTION: After front obstacle recognition S900, processes for a lateral position lane decision S1000, a lateral movement lane decision S2000, and a total lane decision S3000 on this vehicle are performed. In the lateral position vehicle lane decision S1000, the lane of this vehicle is calculated. Namely, the center position and body width data of all bodies obtained by the recognizing process S900 of front obstacles are converted to a straight line. Then the lane area of this vehicle is set. The position of a body as a candidate for a precedent vehicle is matched against the lane area of this vehicle to decide the lane of this vehicle on the basis of the lateral position. Then the lateral movement lane decision S2000 is made. This process is carried out on the basis of the current lateral position, predicted lateral position, and lateral moving speed.
