To provide a preform for a composite which is applicable to a high speed diecasting method and has high strength and excellent air permeability and from which a metal composite capable of exhibiting excellent mechanical characteristics can be formed by the high speed diecasting method; and to provide a method for producing the same.
Ceramic fibers 2 or/and ceramic particles 3, 5, a silica sol 7 and calcium carbonate 4 are mixed, and the resulting mixture is sintered at a prescribed temperature. Thereby, calcium-silicon sintered bodies 11 are formed from the silica sol 7 and calcium carbonate 4, and the preform 1 for the composite, in which the ceramic fibers 2 or/and ceramic particles 3, 5 are coated with the calcium-silicon sintered bodies 11 and the fibers 2 or/and the particles 3, 5 are mutually bonded, is obtained. The preform 1 for the composite has high strength and excellent air permeability and is applicable to the high speed diecasting method capable of exhibiting a high productivity.
