Abstract:

To provide a preform with high value of Vf (volume fraction of fiber) for metal matrix composite without using inorganic particles and also to provide a metal matrix composite having low thermal expansion coefficient.

The preform for metal matrix composite has a three-dimensional skeletal structure formed by mutually binding ceramic fibers with inorganic binder. The wet volume value (Vwet value) of the ceramic fibers is 2 to 25 cc/10 g.
