Abstract:

To produce a long-size, large-diameter FRM solid bar and thick-walled tube.

A bar-shaped or cylindrical preformed material, to be disposed in a metal mold before casting and cast together with a matrix metal to constitute a fiber-reinforced metal matrix composite, is used. An inner layer 1, consisting of a fiber reinforcement in which the axes of fibers are arranged in the axial direction of the preformed material, and a coating layer 2 consisting of a cylindrical braided fabric or woven fabric of a fiber reinforcement, with which the inner layer is to be coated, are alternately laminated into plural layers, and further, the outermost layer is coated with the coating layer. When tension is applied in the axial direction of the preformed material at the time of producing the preformed material, the fibers are unidirectionally oriented and cause no occurrence of disorder. The constraining force caused by the fastening by the coating layer is increased and the occurrence of deformation and separation of the inner layer is prevented at the time of pouring, and also the separation of the inner layer from the coating layer can be prevented. Because the matrix metal is uniformly impregnated, an FRM free from crack and distortion and having high mechanical properties can be produced.
