A material preheater of an arc furnace for preheating a material comprises a material container 1 and a moving device 3 with the material container 1 mounted thereon which is movable between a position in which the arc furnace is disposed and a material preheating position. A pedestal 13 on which the material container 1 is mounted is disposed at the material preheating position. Between the pedestal 13 and the material container 1, a plurality of buffer devices composed of coil springs and tie-bolts are provided for reducing the impact of a material charged in the material container 1.
