To provide a preload indicating washer 20 for giving proper tension to a joint portion between a member having a screw on the outer face and a member having a screw on the inner face.
The preload indicating washer 20 has a plurality of protruded portions 26 punched out of the annular body of the washer 20 and partially sheared and deformed. The protruded portions 26 are loaded, pushed into a plurality of corresponding cavities 30 of the annular body, which are formed when the protruded portions 26 are formed, and then moved back. The protruded portions 26 of the preload indicating washer 20 each have a curved contour. When the preload indicating washer 20 is arranged adjacent to the member having the screw on the outer face, any parts of the protruded portions 26 do not extend radially outward beyond the outer periphery of the bearing surface of the member having the screw on the outer face.
