Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a premixed compression ignition type engine for securing good thermal efficiency while suppressing combustion noise by appropriately slowing combustion according to operating conditions.SOLUTION: On the radial center of a combustion chamber wall surface encircling a combustion chamber 10, a heat insulation layer 45 is arranged which has a smaller heat conductivity than a parent material for the combustion chamber wall surface. When the engine is operated in a prefixed high speed region, water is injected from a water injection device (57) at a timing such that the water can be unevenly distributed onto the radial center of the combustion chamber 10 right before combustion is started. When the engine is operated in a low speed region where an engine speed is lower than in the high speed region, the water is injected at a timing different from that in the high speed region so that the amount of the water on the radial center becomes smaller than in the high speed region, or water injection is stopped.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
