Abstract:
To provide a premixed compression ignition engine for sufficiently increasing a combustion speed while holding combustion noise down to an appropriate level.SOLUTION: The premixed compression ignition engine includes an injector for injecting fuel into a combustion chamber 6, and a plasma production plug 16 for discharging non-equilibrium plasma to the combustion chamber 6. The injector injects the fuel so that part of air-fuel mixture made by mixing fuel and air is formed in a squish area. The plasma production plug 16 discharges the non-equilibrium plasma to the radial inside end of the squish area during a time from a predetermined time in a compression stroke late stage when a squish flow begins to weaken to when the air-fuel mixture is ignited.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 14
