Abstract:
To provide a premixed compression ignition engine for sufficiently increasing a combustion speed while holding combustion noise down to an appropriate level.SOLUTION: The premixed compression ignition engine includes an injector for injecting fuel into a combustion chamber 6, and a plasma production plug 16 for discharging non-equilibrium plasma to the combustion chamber 6. The injector injects fuel so that at least part of the fuel stays in a cavity C of a piston 5 to form richer air-fuel mixture inside the cavity C than outside it. The plasma production plug 16 discharges the non-equilibrium plasma to an opening edge C1 of the cavity C after the fuel is injected by the injector but before the air-fuel mixture in the cavity C is ignited.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 14
