Abstract:
To provide a premixed compression ignition engine for enhancing its fuel consumption performance while holding combustion noise down to an approximate level.SOLUTION: The premixed compression ignition engine includes an injector 15 for injecting fuel into a combustion chamber 6, and a plasma production plug 16 for discharging non-equilibrium plasma to the combustion chamber 6. The injector 15 injects the fuel during an intake stroke including a valve opening period for an intake valve 11. The plasma production plug 16 having an exhaust side electrode 33e extending to an exhaust side, and an intake side electrode 33i set to be longer than the exhaust side electrode and extending to the intake side of the combustion chamber 6, and performs discharge after the fuel injection is performed during the intake stroke but before air-fuel mixture is ignited.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
