Abstract:
To provide a premixed compression ignition type engine capable of stabilizing combustion at the late stage of the combustion while delaying a timing for starting the self-ignition of air-fuel mixture from a compression top dead center, by utilizing non-equilibrium plasma.SOLUTION: In an intake stroke, at least one discharge electrode part 13a of plasma generation means is used for executing first discharge so that air or fuel-lean air-fuel mixture having an air-fuel ratio equal to or higher than first predetermined one is irradiated with non-equilibrium plasma. In a compression stroke, a discharge electrode part 13a of the plasma generation means, which is the same as or different from the discharge electrode part 13a used for executing the first discharge, is used for executing second discharge so that fuel or fuel-rich air-fuel mixture having an air-fuel ratio lower than second predetermined one smaller than the first predetermined one is irradiated with non-equilibrium plasma.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
