Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer with a little discoloration and ash content, by polymerizing 1,3-butadiene in an inert solvent in the presence of a catalyst prepared by adding a Co compound, an organoaluminum compound, a specific amount of water and an aromatic compound having an isothiocyanate group to part or all of the 1,3-butadiene in the order mentioned.

CONSTITUTION: 1,3-Butadiene is polymerized in an inert organic solvent, e.g. methylene chloride, in the presence of a catalyst prepared by adding (A) a cobalt compound, e.g. cobalt octoate, (B) an organoaluminum compound, e.g. trimethylaluminum, (C) water in an amount of 0.05W1.5mol/mol the component (B) and (D) an aromatic compound having an isothiocyanate group, e.g. phenyl isothiocyante, to part or all of the 1,3-butadiene in the order of the components (A), (B) and (D) excpet the component (C) to give the aimed polymer.
