Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prepare 1,4-butanediol in high yield from crude allyl alcohol.

CONSTITUTION: 1,4-Butanediol is prepared by carrying out hydroformylation of allyl alcohol containing allyl acetate and water obtained by the hydrolysis of an allyl acetate in the presence of an organic solvent, rhodium complex, a tri-substituted-phosphine compound, carbon monoxide and hydrogen, then extracting a hydroformylated product using a alkaline aq. solution in the presence of either or both of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, recovering the remainder containing the rhodium complex after the extraction to use in the next hydroformylation reaction and carrying out the hydrogenation reaction of the extracted liquid in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst and hydrogen.
