PURPOSE: To obtain the titled substance useful as a raw material for an intermediate for synthesis of a carcinostatic agent daunomycin, etc, in high yield, by reacting 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalen-2-one derivative with an ethynyl cerium reagent.
CONSTITUTION: A compound expressed by formula I (R1 and R2 respectively represent H, OH or alkoxyl) is reacted with an ethynylcerium reagent in a solvent such as THF or benzene at -78°C for 2W3hr to obtain a compound expressed by formula II. The ethynylcerium reagent is obtained by reacting ethynyllithium, which is produced by reacting acetylene with an organolithium reagent, or an ethynylmagnesium halide, which is produced by reacting acetylene with a Grignard reagent such as alkylmagnesium halide, with anhydrous cerium chloride suspended in a solvent, and has a composition expressed by formula III (0<n≤3) according to the amount of the cerium chloride used.
