Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound excellent in purity and color tone, useful as a gelling agent for styrene, and a polymerization inhibitor, by alkylation of an easily available 2,3-dialkoxy-1,4-naphthoquinone with an aqueous solution of hydrobromic or hydriodic acid.
CONSTITUTION: One mole of a 2,3-dialkoxy-1,4-naphthoquinone is alkylated with preferably 5W20 moles, especially 10W20 moles, of a 10W47wt% aqueous hydrobromic acid or 10W57wt% aqueous, hydriodic acid, as an alkylation agent, preferably at 80W100°C.
USE: A gelling agent for unsaturated polyesters.
