PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compounds through the enzymic method readily in high yield, by bringing benzylpenicillin S-oxide into contact with an enzyme produced by a bacterium belonging to the genus Arthrobacter.
CONSTITUTION: Benzylpenicillin S-oxide is brought into contact with an enzyme produced by a bacterium belonging to the genus Arthrobacter to prepare 6-aminopenicillanic acid S-oxide. On the other hand, benzylpenicillin is brought into contact with an enzyme produced by Arthrobacter cremorum or Arthrobacter flagellum to prepare 6-aminopenicillanic acid. The cultivation is preferably carried out in a liquid culture medium and by the submerged culture method with aeration for mass-production. The pH of the culture medium is preferably 6W10.5, and the enzyme reaction is preferably carried out at 30W40°C and pH of 6.5W9.5.
