PURPOSE: To obtain acyl isocyanates of high purity in high yields without danger by reacting oxalyl chloride with a salt selected from hydrohalides and sulfates of a specific amide /or a carbamate and then, heating the reaction mixture.
CONSTITUTION: Oxalyl chloride is reacted with a salt selected from hydrohalides and sulfates of amides and/or carbamates, unsubstituted on nitrogen. Then, the reaction mixture is heated at a temperature of 30-150°C to obtain an acyl isocyanate. As said salt, it is preferred to use a hydrogen chloride salt of an amide or a carbamate, particularly from the econimical standpoint. It is suitable to use an aliphatic (halogenated) hydrocarbon, a cycloalkane, an aromatic hydrocarbon or a mixture thereof in this reaction. Further, as the amide and/or carbamate salt is preferred a compound of the formula (wherein Z is aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, phenyl, phenylene or the like; n and m are each 1 or 2; y is n/m; and X is a halogen, SO4 or the like).
